Original artwork description:

Drawing in ink on paper in contemporary figurative style elaborated by conceiving in the foreground the imaginary portrait of Countess Adelaide (Turin, 1016 - 1091), Duchess of Savoy, a figure of particular prominence in the years of medieval Piedmont. I have interpreted her in such a way that her strong character, inclined at the same time to sweetness, could be seen in her expression: it seems that she did not hesitate to punish the corruption of the local bishops, but at the same time she also rewarded noble enterprises, charitable activities and welcomed troubadours and minstrels to her court. The duchess founded many churches and monasteries, which became centers of study and history, and restored the church of San Lorenzo in Oulx, in the province of Turin, which had been destroyed by the Saracens. The drawing is also embellished by references to the games and shows of the time: the chess game in the foreground, the musician, the medieval dancer, the tightrope walker and hunting with a falcon. In the background stands the Cathedral of Susa.
