I am always drawn to these overlooked, passed-by bits of landscape, usually in the corners or the margins of fields. This is the entrance to a meadow in mid winter, a short walk from my home. The fog lending a touch of mystery to the landscape.
Christopher Witchall's landscape paintings capture the light, space and vast skies of the Cambridgeshire fens where he has lived, explored, painted and photographed for 30 years.
His unsentimental approach to landscape combine traditional painting techniques with the realism and cool detachment of photography.
