Mato is the word for bear in the Lakota language. The spirit of the bear is strong and protective. Caring for its family and protecting the ones it loves at all cost. The bear is also my spirit animal, the animal I seem to always be drawn to and relate to. I wear a bear claw necklace always. And from the time when I was a little girl my family and friends always called me Little Bear.
I had to paint this portrait of a grizzly bear as a sort of tribute to the animal I respect and admire but also fear.
Mato is 20 x 20 inches on stretched canvas. It is signed on the front and labeled on the back. It comes with a certificate of authenticity and is ready to hang.
