Mariposa Place skirts an open field in Taos, New Mexico. An artist group and I set up Plein Air on a beautiful day in September, though we did have to grab our canvases from flying in the wind! This was a workshop, and I was stretching myself to do an abstract landscape, since what I do is usually rectilinear, which comes from my background as an architect. I practically turned the shrubs in the foreground into fire. The trees in the background frame the Santa Fe National Forest mountains beyond. Mariposa is my second painting in the Taos series, and it has the incredibly deep, complex flamboyance I'm used to. Mariposa explodes with the fresh energy of my forging into this new venture.

Mariposa is framed in a perfectly matching turquoise frame, ready to hang as your muse.
