After Marilyn Monroe died in August 1962 Warhol made more than twenty silkscreen paintings of her, all based on the same publicity photograph from the 1953 film Niagara. Warhol found in Monroe a fusion of two of his consistent themes: death and the cult of celebrity. By repeating the image, he evokes her ubiquitous presence in the media. Marilyn now represents timeless beauty and the woman on my painting is taking it all in.
Marilyn is an original, 100% handmade painting and comes with a hand signed Certificate of Authenticity. The painting is signed at the back and front. At this point Marilyn is still unframed but I'd be happy to frame it for you in a black wooden floating frame at no additional costs.
Please feel free to contact me anytime if you have any questions. I would be happy to answer all of your inquiries personally.
