Margaret marsh, Dorset
Like going back in time,
Walking this solitary landscape,
A Nomansland,
Rolling hills, reeds and bulrushes,
Seeking a slower pace of life.

Words and thoughts of a local countryside below Shaftesbury hill in the Blackmore vale. I love it in the Spring, summer when the rainfall is less and you can walk the footpaths. In the winter it’s becomes flooded and a very boggy plus muddy land to walk. When I was a teenager I used to cycle the back lanes near this exact scene. I would stop and take it in, before cycling up the hill to Shaftesbury. I used to live in the Blackmore vale.
I used rough textured watercolour paper bockingford 425gsm 200lb. I mixed three colours to make the monochrome pigment. I wet the paper in areas and used my filbert brush, dragged across the paper. Leaving areas of creamy white. I then dragged my Chinese brush up for the reeds and grasses. I drew very carefully with my small Chinese handmade brush the bulrushes in the foreground.

Materials used:

Rough textured watercolour paper acid free bockingford 425gsm 200lb, Chinese brushes, filbert brush, Windsor and Newton watercolours,
