The strong light in the tropics gives way to deep colourful shadows. This light gets stronger though the day, but the mornings are the coolest time. I had a large bohio (thatched summer house without walls) which I used as my studio each morning. Deep shadows on walls in the garden, floors, doors and grass and trees. I’ve used French Ultramarine mixed with Alizarin Crimson and a touch of burnt sienna for the shadows, varying the mixture as I felt fit. There were 3 mango trees in the garden, and always some on the floor.
