‘Man collaborating with nature’ walks a fine line between reality and the surreal. The perception is dependent on the sensibility and frame of mind of the viewer.
On the realistic side, the cloud can be perceived as an unexceptional part of the sky or as a flurry of smoke from the man’s pipe. Both accounts, intertwined as a coincidence of composition, recount a simple, but playful anecdote.
Alternatively, and possibly most intriguingly, a surrealistic narrative can be woven. The man could well be a creator of heavenly proportions, airing an alternative, if not slightly irreverent, version of the creation story.
