This is a monoprint (or monotype) and it's unique, there's only one. It was made by inking up a blank printing plate, then selectively removing the ink in selected areas to create the design. The plate is run through an etching press in contact with a sheet of damp paper. The press squeezes the paper against the printing plate with thousands of force, transferring the ink onto the paper. The plate is left blank, so only one print can be produced. The shape of the plate is forever embossed into the paper. A touch of watercolour or acrylic adds the bright colour to the image.
PAPER: 300gsm heavyweight Hahnemuhle velvet surface in natural unbleached creamy-white. One of the Worlds finest papers, Hahnemuhle have been making paper since 1584.
INK: traditional linseed oil based ink.
EDITION SIZE: 1 of 1, unique
SIGNATURE: signed in the margin in pencil.
unframed / unmounted.
Made by hand by myself in my studio at the edge of the Bannau Brycheiniog / Brecon Beacons National Park in the wilds of Wales, UK.

Materials used:

paper, etching ink, linseed oil
