I am most alive when immersed in the creative process and I delight in the poetry of life. As a painter, I am always seeking to express the light like Rembrandt and Turner, yet more than the literal realism to also express the spiritual and the emotive. I painted Makira as an offering of a space for a moment of connection, a liminal place. My process always involves the building of layers of texture, drips, welcomed mistakes and the organic travelling of paint. This process builds the story of a complex life lived, the scars, the learnings, the conversations and where the light has reached. I’m always contemplating the cyclic nature of experience and reflection, celebrating the discarded remnants that have been part of the story along the way.
