Limited edition cyanotype print. Each print will differ slightly from the last.
This image comes from a photograph I took on the Jurassic Coast in the UK. The cyanotype process uses a mixture of iron compounds, which when exposed to UV light and washed in water oxidise to create Prussian Blue images.
You first have to mix the solution correctly, apply it to the paper smoothly (very hard!) leave it in the dark for the correct length of time before you've even tried to expose the print! If you are using an object like a human or flower you need them not to move, ha! or if it's a photographic image there is manipulating the negative with the correct contrast & of course exposing it in the right amount of light, for the right amount of time. I've only used natural sunlight so far, you can get a UV bulb, which might help as I wouldn't then need to rely on the sun staying out or worry about the wind factor. Next is rinsing it well for the correct amount of time. I must have made hundreds of cyanotypes now, I love it, but I'm still making mistakes...and hopefully learning from them too.
