Original artwork description:

“Maiysha” is an acrylic painting on canvas 91cms width x 122cms height. It is part of a series of paintings called ‘The Jazz Series’. This series of paintings has been inspired by listening to the music of Miles Davis and this particular work is named after one of Miles’ ‘On The Corner’ session works and also inspired by the early 1940’s cut – out collages of Henri Matisse called ‘Jazz’ because the works suggested a connection between art and musical improvisation. Miles’ ‘On The Corner’ sessions were experimental and innovative in composition blending free form jazz improvisation with funk and electronica which became the forerunner of hip hop. The painting intends to capture the mood and texture of layered sound. It is very much an improvised work where colours and gestural marks are made in response to the music. My paintings are there to be experienced as ‘events’. The way that they are perceived, as with nature, will be conditioned by the individual onlooker’s feelings, background and temperament. My paintings are not intellectual, they don’t describe events, they don’t tell a story, they do have a context, in this instance free form jazz but they are not concerned with any reference to tangible objectivity. They are just paintings. Paintings are not to be reasoned with, they are not to be understood, they are to be recognised. A3 prints on photo quality paper are also available. The limited edition of 50 prints include a cream window mount 41x51cms . The prints are signed and numbered and have a certificate of authenticity. Prints are posted in flat card envelope.
The painting is shipped in a robust custom made cardboard crate (same as those used to transport large screens). The painting is bubble wrapped to protect the canvas. Further wrapping is made with corrugated card. A wooden frame is placed inside the cardboard crate to preserve the structural strength of the packaging. Each painting is insured to its sale value. Shipping costs within the U.K. take into consideration weight and insurance. U.K. shipping costs for this artwork are £90
