" Maiden with a chubby baby " (Jeune fille au poupon) is an unusual, fantastic and dreamlike painting in acrylic on cotton canvas.
It evokes the carefree spirit of a young mother holding her baby in her arms like a doll, the latter with a serious face and arms crossed, abandoned to his fate as a living infant...
Tones of copper, cadmium red and brown blend with the duck blue of her dress and the pale green of the ginko leaves, contrasting with the white and coppery-brown stripes of the baby's diaper.
The warm background, worked in relief in places, is decorated with a fantastic bird with a scabbed bronze body and white wings with brown polka dots, coppery pink gold flowers and a kind of giant horse with a blue tail, which we can only imagine, as this scene could well be just a strange dream...
