Just from the easel

The main themes of my art: Cosmos, Absolute, laws and rhythms of nature, the Sun and its energy, fertility.

Life (Bios) is a source of my inspiration. I am seeking answers to all my questions in the academic analyses of nature. Inverted perspective, ornamentality, grotesque and stylization are my favourite artistic techniques to escape daily routine, to create some other world which is metaphysical.

Colour is my main expressive means. Its physics and metaphysics excite me deeply. This is the subject my recent works are devoted to. The world is multi-faceted and beautiful in its infinite variations and combinations of colour. This is my theory of infinity and Cosmos.

With a help of complex glaze techniques I achieve multidimensional perception of the image created on a plane of canvas and define it with a deep sophisticated split-like colour. Overlay of a great number of transparent layers each one on top of the next animates the picture and makes it multifaceted. In different lighting and depending on an emotional state viewer is gratified with new details and perspectives. A person is free to opt for plunging into a depth or staying on the surface.

I stay true to traditional painting techniques, deliberately avoiding use of auxiliary digital techniques. Tactile sensations during creative process carry a great importance for me. That is why almost all my canvases are made in author’s techniques, paying a particular attention to process of canvas priming and preparation of its surface. I do it all by hand only.

Nuances are of utmost importance in my works. Each fragment of a picture is a little story with its own plot. All together they add up to an entire narration with an open finale.

Quite often composition of my works is similar to kaleidoscope. A viewer is invited to participate and becomes a part of creative play. Just like a child who turns kaleidoscope tube anticipating a new pattern, viewer, changing vision focus experiences a new visual sensation.

Interaction of male and female principles is an important theme of my works. My favourite play is that of contrasts, including deliberate use of contradistinctions, where cold is opposed to warm, shade to light, textured canvas surface to a smooth one, clear sonorous sound to a muffled grey in the background, a pasty brush stroke to a transparent glaze, dark to light, minuteness and explicitness to blurred and stylized shapes.

My approach is to talk with a viewer in the language of metaphors, legends, symbols touching upon deep layers of genetic memories and the collective unconscious.

I am inspired by and interested in a contrast between man-made rigid geometric constructions and pliability of living nature forms.
