Original artwork description:

My great aunt and uncle were aboard the Lusitania when it was torpedoed by a German submarine in 1915. They were among the survivors but their ten week old son did not. The great ship sunk in just seventeen minutes and lies in the Irish Sea. A few items have been retrieved and I'm making a small collection of paintings featuring them. The life ring bearing the ships name was one such item. Painted in oils, the use of a palette knife introduces delicate texture giving a contemporary feel to an evocative subject.

This painting is sold unframed but is suitable to do so should you wish. I do not varnish my paintings , as I prefer the slightly chalky look of the oils as laid down. If you would like it varnished before sending, I can do so at no extra cost.

The painting is signed, dated and titled on the reverse and initialled on the front.
