An original Pencil drawing by Paul Stowe - Continuing my series of drawing classical sculptures this piece reflects 'Le génie du mal' (installed 1848) or The Genius of Evil known informally in English as Lucifer or The Lucifer of Liège, it is a religious sculpture executed in white marble by the Belgian artiist Guillaume Geefs. It was some of the smaller details that I loved about this that drew me to want to spend time drawing it - the bitten apple depicting the 'forbidden fruit', the broken sceptre, the toe nails turning pointed and of course the small horns on the head. Another incredible sculpture and one that fits perfectly in this series of drawings.
Drawn as always on smooth Bristol Board with Faber Castell 9000 series pencils and a Tomo Zero eraser - size for this drawing was 38cm X 60cm - Time Taken c40 hours.
Following a 20 year Hiatus Paul picked up his pencils again and started drawing back in 2012. Turning professional in 2016 Paul has won accolades across the globe, initially exhibiting and selling work in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand he now resides in the centre for contemporary British Art and the Tate Modern Gallery, St. Ives, cornwall.
From his open studio and commercial gallery in the town he spends hours, weeks and months drawing incredibly detailed images inspired by the plethora of artists and art in the local area.
His work is on permanent display in the ry in St. Ives and with individual and corporate collections across the world.
The drawing is being sold unframed to reduce shipping costs - however I can offer a bespoke framing service as required - just send me a message to discuss.
*Images showing the drawing in a frame and in various room settings are for illustration purposes only.
