The North east coastline is one of my favourite stretches, from Sandsend through to Saltburn. When the tide goes out at Sandsend it exposes layers of bedrock, with nooks and crannies, forming beautiful shapes and reflections.
Painted in my studio on a hard cradle support from sketch made in situ. With a red under painting, this was painted flat on the floor, using a mix of cold wax and oil paint. I apply the paint thickly in layers using rollers, spatulas, scrapers and even my hands. The paint is applied, scraped off, re applied and then drawn back into with a skewer or drypoint needle.
Cradle support, oil Paint, Cold Wax, R&F Pigment Stick, Gambasol
