When I work on a figurative painting, I use a photograph as a reference. I draw the figure on a Bristol board and when complete I transfer it into the canvas, which I already primed with a first layer or color. I start painting the figure and towards the end of the painting process, I start to incorporate abstract elements into the painting. Sometimes the abstract parts are minimal, and sometimes they are more pronounced, depending on the mood I am in and on the specific piece I am working on.
In this particular piece i was inspired by the photo of a loving couple embracing in a hug, i added abstract elements to give the painting a celestial magic warm feeling.
