culture = shield and weapon.
I will donate part of the funds to restore ukrainians homes and hospitals
Each object in the series is an artifact that is involved in the struggle for independence and democracy. It is also very symbolic, as the symbols from pysankas survived the invaders, just like a hundred years ago. This is proof that culture is stronger than the artificially created "values" spread by russian propaganda.
Everything that is happening in Ukraine now has happened before. The ancient history of the struggle against the russian empire is repeating itself in the present. But folk art is stronger than propaganda and remembers everything.
Since the beginning of their existence, russians have always occupied Ukrainian territories. About a hundred years ago, they occupied the Ukrainian Belgorod, Kursk, and Kuban regions. They destroyed part of the Ukrainian population, language, and culture. while painting pysankas this year, I began to learn more about this tradition and found many examples from these already lost territories.
The same story is already repeating itself in the east and south of Ukraine. Our Donetsk, Luhansk and Crimea are very close to becoming another "belgorod".
It is important for us to remember our history and know our culture so that we do not forget who we are.
