"  Lost in Thought "

12 x 12 inch Oil on canvas
Now available.

I must say that I literally love this painting. And I must now confess to a burgeoning obsession with portrait painting! I have officially caught the bug!

I wanted this portrait to exude the feeling of a classical oil painting, with a subtle, contemporary edge. And I believe I've achieved this.

I sought to capture the unknowable story  behind the eyes of a woman lost in thought, where the inscrutable expression reveals something of her unknowable inner world.
"Emotion" and "melancholia" were two words that instructed the journey for this painting.

I didn't want this particular piece to be based on a total likeness of the model, but instead I borrowed the main elements and framework of the face,  whilst breathing into it my own interpretation as to the final construction of the features and also regarding colour choices. This felt so much freer and has brought a sense of magic in knowing that I've created an entirely original human face, but more importantly, that I've breathed a sense of life and soul through the timeless gaze.

And I so enjoyed working small again! - such a different experience to the larger canvasses I usually work on.
