DESCRIPTION: Photographing La La Land, my beloved hometown, was a daunting task.  As with every image, my goal is to capture the heart and soul of the subject.  To accomplish this, a considerable amount of time and planning are often required.  Since the city of Los Angeles is well known for so many famous landmarks including the Hollywood sign, the Venice Canals, and the Walt Disney Concert Hall, it made it extra difficult to decide where to concentrate my efforts.  After many days of searching, I discovered a perch above the Hollywood Bowl with a breathtaking view of Tinseltown and then patiently waited for a crystal-clear, blue-sky day with minimal wind.  When the day finally arrived, I camped out from the late afternoon through the late evening.  As the sun gradually descended toward the horizon, the downtown skyline came alive.  I opted for a long exposure to blur the car lights on the freeway which simultaneously served as captivating leading lines drawing the viewer’s eyes further and further towards downtown. The energy emanating from the City of Angels was palpable. The vibe was amazing. Seeing the city from this perspective was a truly unique opportunity and as I pressed the shutter, I knew I had captured an iconic image of the city I’m proud to call home.
