Artwork description:

'Lord Rama' is an original hand-carved linocut of the hero of Hindu mythology complete with his trademark bow and arrow, adorned with his headpiece and jewellery.

The deity Hanuman said that Rama was a supreme being and by chanting the name 'Lord Rama' all earthly problems can be resolved. It's believed that by chanting his name 10 million times 'Moksha' can be achieved. This is a central idea to Hindu philosophy and while it can have different meanings according to different schools of thought; the common explanation is of total liberation from the cycles of death and rebirth (Samsara). This work is part of my 'Dashavatara' series, Rama being the seventh Avatar of Vishnu, the God of preservation.

The work is printed using a hand-burnishing method in which the paper is placed over the linocut and then the back of the paper is rubbed intensely with a burnishing tool to transfer the image. For this reason the registration marks used during printing are faintly embossed around each corner on the outer edge of the print. This only adds to and emphasises the handmade nature of the piece.

This is a limited edition linocut, printed on beautiful 285gsm Fabriano Rosapina Avorio printmaking paper.

Your print will come wrapped in protective tissue paper to reach you in the best condition.

If you have any questions relating to the work before purchase please don't hesitate to ask me.
