"Looking Through" was painted in the picturesque village of Verderonne in France in 2021 and then revisited with deeper shadows and heightened contrast in early 2025. The inspiration for this captivating piece came to Dominic Virtosu during a visit to the grounds of a former noble family estate, where he was invited to exhibit his work. While wandering the estate’s expansive grounds, Virtosu stumbled upon an ancient passageway linking the grand main yard to what was once a flourishing garden.

Drawn to the exquisite craftsmanship of the stonework and the mysterious aura surrounding the hidden passage, Virtosu felt an undeniable urge to capture this quiet moment of transcendence—just before stepping through the timeless portal.

"I felt as though it was a passage hidden in plain sight," the artist remarked. "The way the light shifted so subtly between the two spaces was a nuance I found absolutely captivating."
