LONGSANDS – a series of colour photographic print works. (colour archival inkjet print w500mm x h500mm image size with white border w1000mm x h1000mm) Fine art prints - Limited edition of 8 per image + 2 AP. Works are accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

Among some coastal people there has always been a belief that high tide is a sign of well-being and reward and low tide one of loss and even death.

Where sea and land meet is a sort of half world, not truly occupied by either.

These images were made over a two year period photographing at Whitley Bay beach on the English North East coast. Using a medium format film camera, I double and sometimes multi-expose the image - the results are unpredictable and often surprising. The negatives are scanned and working from finished digital files I produce high-resolution composite RGB files and output archive colour ink jet prints.

Longsands explores the relationship between what we see and how we feel when in this constantly changing environment.

The final images are as much about what can’t be seen as what actually can.

Materials used:

Analogue photography and digital colour ink jet photographic archival print
