Artwork description:

This is an aluminium lithograph of Longrun Lake in Taunton, Somerset. The print was created through a process known as Aluminium Lithography where by the image was initially drawn on aluminium foil using a chinagraph pencil.

Using the water/ oil resist, the foil was prepared to receive oil based printing ink only in the areas where the pencil was drawn, creating the printed image. Through a particular process of burnishing, the foil would capture more of the ink creating a form of aquatint, creating the illusion of shadow and darkened areas, forming the completed print.

The completed inked image is printed on fabriano paper through a printing press.

Materials used:

Oil based printing ink on fabriano.
