The houses in the village of Longen nestling among the vineyards of the Mosel in Germany attracted me as a subject for a painting both because of the composition and because of the colours. This painting is one of a whole series of vineyard paintings that I have painted since I now live between two of the great wine producing areas of Germany - the Saar and the Mosel. And there is the same fascinating history and aura of mystery surrounding wine here as there is surrounding whisky in my native Scotland - legends and myths abound!
I often take a trip to the Mosel with my easel and my painting rucksack and, of course, after "work", there are plenty of great places to try the local produce!
