Original artwork of the city of London, UK painted on canvas and stretched on double wooden bars.
London has been one of my favorite cities. I have visited it many times in the past 40 years and have painted it a few times already. Even though London offers many different landmarks you never get the chance to see them all together. My intention was to combine all of these landmarks and icons into one piece of art.
I chose blue as it is not only present in the UK flag but also because the city was built around the river Thames.
Detailed description of the painting:
The famous Tower Bridge, St. Paul’s Cathedral and Big Ben form the center of this painting. The Buckingham Palace in miniature size balances on the tip of St. Paul’s dome.
The left side is dominated by the London Tower. One of the bridge’s lampposts and the Nelson Column of Trafalgar Square surround the Tower, while Westminster Abbey dangles on a rope from the Shard.
The right side’s most prominent landmark is the London Eye and the Gherkin. The Globe Theater and a London telephone booth form a harmonious ensemble.
Right in the middle of the painting is the world-known double decker bus. It has been lifted off the road and hangs in the air right on Tower Bridge while Peter Pan plays calmly his flute in front of it.
The blue arches contain a few London icons as well. The metro sign, a teapot, and the bowler hat are integrated as graphics in the background.
