Artwork description:

I have always loved taking photos in the calmness of the fog or mist. There is something therapeutic and meditative about the way the fog shrouds the landscape into mystic dreamscapes. Creating an atmospheric high-key dreamworld, warping the perspective by isolating objects, almost removing them from their environment. It can make objects appear far away that in reality are very close by as it makes the view flat and two-dimensional. Also, fog and mist always reminds me of Scandinavian folklore stories and fairytales - probably because of the pencil illustrations in the story books I grew up with in Norway - like the ones by Theodor Kittelsen illustrating the collections of folktales collected by Asbjørnsen & Moe.

This capture is from a morning cycle-ride down along the Thames Path in South East London. I kept stopping so much to admire the foggy scenery that what was supposed to be a quick 15 minute ride became a much longer 2 1/2 hours trip. This was a bit of a rare occasion when the morning fog didn't dissipate until well past midday, so I took full advantage of it. I liked how these channels in the mud just disappear into nothing as I couldn't see the water's edge of The Thames River with the low tide.

Also available in other sizes:
84x119cm - edition of 25
