Abandoned buildings, ruined castles and old dilapidated cottages are high on the list of subjects for both photographers and artists alike and I am no exception. Here is a little painting of an old cottage on Islay in the Inner Hebrides: its old tin roof has rusted and turned a lovely shade or terracotta making a splash of colour in this lovely part of the world. Wouldn't you too prefer this colourful work of art depicting a ruined cottage with squint chimney pots to a picture of a perfectly built bungalow with solar panels? Unfortunately the old buildings are disappearing leaving us with paintings for memories.
