Very limited edition of 10 prints
Hand-drawn, hand-pulled

THE STORY

I have tried to capture a street scene I walked past in North Calcutta -- it is not an extraordinary scene, but I found it captivating as it provided me with a glimpse of the coexistence of beauty, harmony and simplicity in everyday life. The shapes and forms of the unpretentious local vegetables, the way they lay there on the footpath peacefully and harmoniously, with reminders of them being 'living things' spelled out by the still-attached vines and leaves made me pause and feel glorious in the moment of shared existence and life.

THE PROCESS

Solar etching is a lovely non-toxic process -- and a very fast one too! The drawing or positive is made on a film sheet, and exposed for a few minutes under the Sun on to a light-sensitive polymer plate. The plate is then processed with flowing water, and is ready to be printed using the standard intaglio printing process!

Materials used:

ink
