This painting is based on Modigliani's Nu couche (sur la cote gauche), 1917. Sold at Sotheby’s in May 2018 for $157.2 million. This was his largest nude and the only one one of the entire figure. Her bright red lips and dark hair contrast strikingly with the expanse of exposed, smooth flesh; a classical odalisque. She stares assuredly at the viewer, floating off on her RNLI-coloured lilo, but danger looms...
