For a moment, New York in the summer is gorgeous. The setting sun sizzles into the Hudson; dramatically with a bombastic and colorful display. The air is warm enough for an afternoon picnic but cool enough to comfortably sit outside at a cafe as dusk arrives. There is not yet a murky cloud of humidity radiating from all surfaces. New York City is briefly gorgeous and then all at once everyone leaves. It is a shame, everyone would leave; they might miss some of the city’s secret magic. New York has an uncanny ability to make something out of nothing. Picture it: an old pier, polluted waters, a view of New Jersey? It sounds less than promising and potentially smelly. Don’t let that fool you. With a flick of the wrist, a fantastical urban wonderland emerges. Cement pilings become pieces of a rolling hill on the water. Suddenly there is an emerald sitting on the Hudson. The sun is putting on her own show. That is New York magic, lightning in a bottle.
