Lincoln Cathedral North Rose Window
Acrylic Gouache on Paper
Unframed 56 x 56cm
Signed by the Artist
Certificate of Authenticity
Lincoln Cathedral boasts two magnificent rose windows, both remarkably different from the other. This window is based in the north transept and is often called the 'Dean's Eye'. It was first created in 1220 but owing to its daring structure at the time it quickly started to fail. Since this period, it has undergone significant reconstruction. The Dean's Eye comprises of a traditional set of imagery showing elements of the bible. The colours are also fairly traditional with an emphasis on blue and red (often seen as symbols of purity and the blood of Christ).
This painting forms part of my latest collection of paintings exploring modern society's relationship with religion.
