Lilacs are a rare guest in my studio. Unfortunately, its blossom is very fleeting, and cut branches are seldom seen in flower shops even in season. But all the more I enjoy working with these delightful flowers. This year I managed to make a series of paintings with lilacs, both oil and watercolor. This watercolor piece is one of them. When I had this stunning bouquet of white and purple lilacs at my disposal, by a happy coincidence, there were tulips nearby, which also remarkably fit into a composition. Work on the painting took me several days, it turned out a realistic floral still life in the classical sense of the word. Recently, I have been experimenting quite a lot with technique and composition, but this time I wanted to work thoughtfully, not chasing any innovations. The lilac itself is a fairly new object for me to study, and I tried to express its airiness, color, and texture exactly as it seemed to me in reality.
