Abstracts depicting what Lewis and Clark described while traveling through North Dakota.
"I believe it to be the strata of coal seen in those hills which causes the fire and burnt appearances frequently met with in this quarter. Where those burnt appearances are to be seen in the face of the river bluffs, the coal is seldom seen, and when you meet with it in the neighborhood of the stratas of burnt earth, the coal appears to be presisely at the same height, and is nearly of the same thickness, together with the sand and a sulphurious substance which usually accompanys it." Lewis April 16, 1805
Lignite Coal is a triptych. Lignite Coal I is 16 x 16 inches, II is 16 x 14 inches, III is 16 x 16 inches. They are acrylic on stretched canvas. All signed, gallery wrapped, wired and ready to hang. The series comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.
