My French house is over 600 years old. I live in an apartment on the first floor. The feel of the house is always warm and welcoming but I am always aware that I share this space with those who have gone before. One evening last week when the low setting sun created dramatic shafts of light in my sitting room, images came to mind of past occupants, a seamstress who worked by the same light at the beginning of the 20th Century. The scorch marks of her flat iron are still to be seen on the old oak floor. Maybe just maybe she is present still.....
This watercolour is inspired by that thought.
It is sold with a mount and backboard. Painted on 300gm 100% cotton watercolour paper with Winsor Newton professional watercolours
