The plot of this artwork came from my trip to Kyoto several years ago. I used to live in Kyoto and visited lots of wonderful places there but somehow missed Kibune and Kurama. So I’d decided to go there at last and was completely amazed by the beauty of the nature and coziness of the village architecture.
Everything felt special.
The building in this artwork is from Kurama-dera temple complex. I loved the roof details and wanted to show this lacy feeling of the tiles without overthinking and overworking them.
The day I saw this place was very sunny and bringing the light to the surface became one of my goals for the painting.
