Acrylic, watercolour crayons, ink, graphite and collage on paper

Anna Akhmatova is one of the greatest Russian poets of the 20th century. For more than 30 years, his poetry was banned from publication. Her first husband was shot, her third life companion died in the Stalinist camps. Her son was arrested twice and sentenced to 15 years of forced labor and exiled to Siberia.
Constantly watched by the Soviet regime, her apartment was regularly visited by the authorities. When she received friends, she had them read her poems, asked them to learn certain verses by heart, then tore up and burned the said poems in a small ashtray to leave no trace.

I work in a spontaneous, intuitive and gestural way, where the unconscious takes up more space than the conscious. I do not seek to represent my environment, but rather to evoke an emotion. I first choose a color palette, then I spread the paint without really thinking. When I am satisfied with the result, I take a break which allows me to think about the next step. I add details that guide the eye through the work and give it meaning.
