This sculpture is a classical treatment of the animalistic theme portrayed with a subtle jewelry nuance. Here the movement and expression remain in the background so that the adorning surface stands out. The animal was sculpted with precision and softness and was finished off stamping every single hair. The sculpture was gilded using the old technique of mercury gilding. 23 carat gold was thickly layered on the light areas of the leopard’s body. The dark spots were carefully outlined and oxidized. This has created a truly realistic effect with mild stylization. The concept of the work is contemplation of the beautiful animal, a masterpiece of nature in itself. Some of the details that impress with their delicacy are the teeth, the jaw and the tongue of the animal, made of white bone and black buffalo horn. The work is in its own way unique.
Krasimir Krustev’s works require within 4 to 8 weeks to make. Every piece of his fine sculptures goes through several stages of creation – modelling, casting in metal and refining. A distinguishing feature of a great part of his hand made sculptures is their jewelry like quality, and every single one of them is created with great care to detail. The sculptor does not compromise with the quality of his work, and many of his creations are in the collections of art lovers around the world.
