Painting in contemporary figurative style dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci at the moment in which, having fled from Milan, he stopped in Mantua where he was welcomed by Isabella d'Este, one of the most influential women of the Renaissance, famous both for her political skills and her passion for collecting works of art. The work, in fact, is inspired by the moment in which the Florentine genius is about to realize the portrait of the charismatic and cultured noblewoman, of which today remains the preparatory drawing datable to about 1500 and preserved in the Louvre (Cabinet des Dessins) in Paris.
