We were walking round Grafham Water in Cambridgeshire a while ago, and as we went through an area of woodland near the edge of the water, the sun was streaming through the foliage of the trees. There were some nice qualities of light, shade and texture, so I took a photograph of the scene and used it as a reference for this painting.
