This mixed media piece was painted and drawn using my left hand because I had damaged my tendons in the thumb of my right hand skateboarding. I actually like to draw with my left hand from time to time because I like the rougher, looser and less predictable outcome. This picture was started because I had some pink oil paint left over as I was painting another self portrait and I decided to roughly apply the pink oil paint in the shape of my body using a palette knife. I enjoy to do more expressive works on occasion as my usual pieces are generally much more controlled. After the Oil Paint had dried I liked how it looked and decided to draw over the top in pencil to define my self-portrait. I was pleasantly surprised with the expressive likeness of myself that I was able to capture using my left hand.
