Artwork description:

This particular leading lady was the carved figurehead at the prow of the Royal Navy ship HMS Caliope, launched in 1884. Ships adorned with carved figureheads is a tradition going back thousands of years. Their supernatural association is undefined but generally regarded as significant. To my eye they represent a humanity and a generosity that has been largely stamped out by the haughty and anxious mores of this age.

Technical note
This print is made from high quality materials and should present no keeping difficulties. The print is pulled from a relief plate cut from rubber, a method similar to lino-printing. The print run produced an edition of six copies.

Materials used:

oil-based printing ink, Johannot paper
