About the work:
The creation of this painting was during the autumn, while in that year the summer of 2016, my location was in Highgate forest on a day trip out taking photographs for another painting. I happen to come across a gap in the trees which looked as it was a little portal or a natural frame, I imagined at that time that a female character should be stood in the frame.
I based the idea on the story of Lazarus of Bethany as i just researched the story and became very fond of the idea that he was awoken by Jesus after four days. The reason i came across the story was one of David Bowie's last songs he got on the last album 'Black Star' as i imagined that the painting should be a female i used it, i always thought that in the classical bible stories it was always about the males and not the females.
