This small oil painting is composed of layered journeys taken around Somerset, Spain, Cyprus and from a variety of paintings from past Masters and Mistresses of painting.

The painting explores the varied journeys a person takes, recording their journey through life as paintings/ documents/ memory - here I have brought the many together, forming a painting that encompasses the fractured experience, seeking solace in the landscape to reform and bring composure.

I imagine this painting as an allegory influenced by the current troubles experienced by Europe and the UK as a result of Brexit, incorporating my own personal journeys in Europe, my local landscape and the influences from artists like JMW Turner and others who also seek the landscape as an influence for their work.

The painting comprises of a variety of boats, rivers, tunnels as well as the lushous landscape, arid landscapes and stormy clouds from an oncoming storm. Amongst the image is a small part of the Turner painting 'The Burning of the Houses of the Lords and Commons' - exemplifying the debates of the UK's current political turmoils.
