‘LAVENDER WALK’ is an acrylic and dye painting on unprimed canvas. It is 135x75cms in size, unframed and stretched over a wooden frame with steel corner braces. ‘Lavender Walk’ is part of a series of paintings inspired by a familiar location and in keeping with similar paintings made at this time focuses on memory and imagination. The location is Hesketh Park, Southport, U.K. I walk in this park every day. The central feature of the painting and the location is the expansive lake. The ‘park’ paintings indicate a shift in style and manner. Central to the increasingly expressive way of working is the creation of illusory space and, at the same time an emphasis on real physical subject. Whilst recognisable features may still be glimpsed the imagery is pushed beyond literal resemblance. Particular memories and emotions are expressed through colour, mark and fragments of description. There are clear reference points to Fauvism, (Henri Matisse, Maurice de Vlaminck, André Derain and Raoul Dufy) abstract expressionism, the semi-abstraction of Howard Hodgkin and the pure abstractions of John Hoyland.
The painting is shipped in a robust custom made cardboard crate (same as those used to transport large screens). The painting is bubble wrapped to protect the canvas. Further wrapping is made with corrugated card. A wooden frame is placed inside the cardboard crate to preserve the structural strength of the packaging. Each painting is insured to its sale value.
