The Ribblehead VIaduct carries the famous Settle to Carlisle railway. It is a stupendous Victorian feat of engineering which spans an area of boggy land. Lapwings with their characteristic "peewit" cry and their striking black and white plumage, nest in this dale, apparently regardless of the architectural might behind them. It is the contrast between the built and the natural which has drawn me to this image.
