Anxiety, 40 x 50 cm, 2022

This painting is about... anxiety (well done!), one of my oldest friends. It was diagnosed to me by a psychologist a few years ago, under the gentle name of GAD (generalized anxiety disorder). In summary, I am anxious everywhere, all the time. Months of therapy later, I'm better but I'll probably never be free of it.
In my opinion, anxiety is defined by excessive and negative anticipation of everything. Even things that are supposed to be cool. Suddenly, everything becomes distressing and worrying: an email, an appointment, a train to catch, someone who doesn't respond to your text, an evening with strangers. Even when I'm taken to an art fair. Add to that the fact that I have the "social anxiety" supplement and you will have a good overview of my life.

I used several types of paper in this painting. From top to bottom :
- a train ticket, which very well sums up the anxiety brought by the notion of schedules and delays for those who are anxious. Personally, I always arrive at the station or airport well in advance. Just in case. And before a meeting, I “block”. This means that several hours before the fateful moment, I do nothing, too obsessed with the schedule in question.
- Cards from the ONIRIM game, which allows the player to wander into dreams and come out of them. But along the way, he encounters nightmares. The choice of these cards evokes the permanent insecurity triggered by anxiety.
- Cards from the Tarot de Marseille, which underline the excessive anticipation that I spoke about in the introduction. Thinking about everything, all the time in advance, having fears about the future, about something that hasn't even happened yet.
- Trivial Pursuit cards, to symbolize the fact of ruminating all the time, asking questions. Why is he 3 minutes late? Was he hit by a bus on the road? Why doesn't she respond to my messages? I deliberately placed all the cards on the question side and not the answer side (there is never an answer, in anxiety!).
- Negative maps of 1000 Bornes, for all the films we can make about the future. Obviously negative and catastrophic films. If the person does not respond to messages, it is NECESSARY that they are dead or that they no longer want to talk to me. She obviously can't be busy with anything else. These cards also talk about the negative consequence of anxiety on our lives.

The canvas is varnished and equipped with a hanging system.

Materials used:

Paper and acrylic on canvas
