A lot of fenland landscape is flat and treeless. On this stretch of lane near Soham, you are suddenly plunged into an avenue. The approaching trees remind me of a gateway to somewhere beyond.
Christopher Witchall's landscape paintings capture the enormous spaces and vast skies of the Cambridgeshire fens, where he has lived, explored, painted and photographed for 30 years.
