Original artwork description:

A Stag with Ravens and a beautiful woman here. This was an imaginative scene, originally based on the theme of Diana the Huntress. As I painted it though, as often happens with this type of Art with me, a different idea formed in my mind of somewhere in the Scottish Highlands, a Warrior Queen with the ability to communicate with wild animals and having mystical powers. Although it is a peaceful and harmonious setting, there is a sense of watchfulness and alertness. The blood red of her cape/blanket suggested the idea of a battle and one Raven appears to be warning her about something. As a viewer it may tell a different story entirely to you and that is something that it is wonderful about this story telling type of Art.

It was painted almost entirely from imagination, with few photo references and no live model. The feel is rich and oldy-worldy and the diffused light was acheived by working up several layers over a golden underpainting.

The painting is in Oil paint on linen canvas, measuring 20 by just under 26 inches - 65 x 50 in centimetres. It is sold un-framed and will require framing. Some ideas of different types of frames are given here in the photos.

Materials used:

Linen Canvas and wooden stretcher bars, Oil paint
